Very well made pack. Beautiful color. Roomy interior.
Fish I –
I wanted a travel backpack that I could use to avoid the extra airline fees of checking a suitcase as well as be hands free when traveling alone. I did a lot of research online…but it is hard to make a decision without seeing and touching the product.
So I went to Bean’s and purchased this backpack. (My last two backpacks, used for exploring and teaching outdoors have come from Beans.)
I loved the color and as usual, the quality felt great. I knew it would be a challenge to fit all I needed for 6 days in this 30 L pack, but I’m always up for a challenge.
The issues I have with this pack is the design, not the quality. Here are my critiques:
1. Not a lay flat design. I saw this feature listed in a number of the bags I researched on line. I didn’t really know why this would be an important feature, but now I do. Apparently it can be very advantageous to have your pack lay flat going through TSA. But the big thing for me was the difficulty in packing. It is difficult to pack items into the facing mesh interior pocket if your items are constantly sliding down. A change in design to increase the depth of the top of the pack would allow for a lay flat design when opened AND add precious volume.
2. Lack of water bottle pocket. WHAT? This is a serious design flaw in my book. I knew that I would be traveling with my Baggelini travel purse that has TWO water bottle pockets, so it wasn’t a deal breaker for me this time, but again, a serious design flaw.
3. Lack of easy access travel accessories pockets. Many travel backpacks have that exterior pocket that provides easy access with multiple slots and other compartments for your smaller essentials (tech, travel docs, sunglasses, etc) that are critical during travel and this backpack is seriously lacking here. If it were not for my trusty travel purse and small bag personal organization system, this alone would have kept me from purchasing this bag.
With a few design tweaks based on actual travelers, I think this bag could be turned into a top knotch travel companion, but it needs some evolution first.

This backpack had more room than anticipated. Highly recommended.

This pack fits a lot more than I expected and is the perfect size for a weekend getaway. It’s durable and comfortable to wear. I would rate it 5 stars if it had at least one side sleeve or small pocket for a water bottle or umbrella. Awkward design flaw, but otherwise, a great travel backpack.

Great quality bag that you would expect from LL Bean. Very sleek and stylist. I should have purchased the larger version (45L), but I still may do that and give this 30L model to my wife (who also really likes it).
Wear W –
It definitely is a carry on that fits under the seat or overhead bin. Has many pockets. Zippers are sturdy. Thoughtfully and carefully designed.

Good points: Made in Vietnam: still a communist government, but not as bad as PRC anyway. 30 liter capacity is a good size for long day hikes, also fits well in most jet carryon bins. Multiple compartments are convenient. It seems sturdy enough for most situations.
A couple of short-comings on a generally good product: It doesn’t appear to have a waterproof top. I found it awkward to place a camelback water container, and position the drinking tube conveniently.
Cinmd –
awkward shape when stuffed and zippers didn’t make sense upon trial of use

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my daughter who lives in Egypt. It will not be used for awhile but 1. I love the color & it’s size & the fact that it is light even though it has a rigid frame so it stays upright when you set it down. And 2, I give it 5 stars because of the confidence I have in L.L. Bean products. I have never been disappointed and if this backpack disappoints me I will let you know.

Wow, one of the best finds at L.L. Bean. My go to back pack for traveling and flying. Lots of room for just about anything.
JGruesbeck –
It’s very well made, some might think L.L Bean items are overpriced. But the quality shows.
My wife and I both have one of these Back Packs. We were able to pack most of everything (clothes) for a 5 day stay.

Took this backpack to airport, cruise and tours. Sturdy, comfortable, convenient, accessible, lots of unique storage, expandable, perfect size and pretty color as well!
