I got this jacket in the Faded Jade color. It’s a color that I normally wouldn’t get but I had to break out of my same old color rut. It’s super warm and the pockets are very roomy. I wished it was just another 1 – 2″ longer in length. The only negative is there is no way to cinch up the hood or tighten it so it stays on when the wind blows.

I love the hooded sweater jacket. I previously had the 850 jacket, I loved it also. I went with the sweater jacket this time because I liked the baffle pattern better than the regular 850. I feel like it is more flattering .

I have to say, I was having buyer’s remorse after I placed my order. I live in San Diego (grew up in New England), why was I spending $200+ on a winter jacket? I was prepared to send it back, and then it came. And then I tried it on. And then I moved around in it. Darn, I’m keeping it! I’m not a small woman (5’7″ and 215ish–don’t tell anyone). I have broad shoulders and a cortisol belly, but I have to say, the XL fits me beautifully even with a sweater underneath. AND it even makes me look like I have female figure! Huzzah! I purchased this to replace a men’s XL (different brand) that my ex didn’t want, and this fits me SO much better with more room in the hips, no billowing in the waist, and really nice fit in the shoulders (I hardly ever find a nice fit in the shoulders). It is super light yet very warm in chilly temps (it gets into the 30s at night–respectably cool, no?). It also withstands jumpy mid-size dog paws (I’d read about some folks having issues with tears). I wear it on hikes, around backyard firepits, and whenever my New England-hardiness wanes. I’m sorry to say I love it and I’m not returning it.

All I need for 95% of my winter days in Maine! It’s plenty warm and I have space to layer underneath if I need to, but more often I find myself unzipping to cool off. If a Petite had been available at the time of purchase I would have gotten one as the sleeves are a wee bit long – but with the cool stitching and styling, no one can tell. I wore this up Thorndike Trail to the top of Ragged Mountain the other day and it was misty/foggy/rainy – I stayed dry. Once I got home, the jacket dried quickly.

I have the sweater jacket minus the hood and felt I needed one that would offer more warmth when needed. It is lightweight without the extra bulk to keep warm. I love the ability to cinch the bottom to keep me even warmer and not allow drafts. I would have liked the hood to have had the cinch, too. I purchased a medium to allow for a fleece jacket to wear underneath and layer. Black is a basic color in my wardrobe, so it suits me fine. Have worn it on a very windy and chilly day in Boston and it was just the right thing!

I’m 5’2″ and the petite hit my waist at exactly the right spot. I generally think of myself as a medium but the medium was too small. The small petite was perfect. The hood is barely noticeable from the front – it does not detract from the look of the collar. It’s incredibly comfortable – virtually weightless.

I’ve always loved LL Bean products. You can beat the quality or price! This jacket exceeded my expectations! I bought this last year for a backpacking trip in late winter/early spring when the TN weather is psycho and it was perfect…we had rain wind, cool and cold weather. I’ve worn it in the winter when it dips into the mid 20s and windy. I felt zero wind and I was toasty warm. Wore it in windy Ireland and am taking it to Banff this fall! I love how they pack super small. I can take both of mine on trips for photo variety! Use wool drier balls when drying to keep the down evenly spread. LL Bean runs a bit large on me so I ordered an XS and it was perfect!

I am headed on a river cruise to visit the European Christmas markets and I need something light enough to wear inside shops and buildings, warm enough to withstand the cold of December and something that I could either fly with or wouldn’t take up a lot of space in my carry on. This fits the bill. My husband has had the same jacket (for men) for a couple of years and loves it. It is a classic style, keeps its shape, washes well and is warm and light. It’s perfect to pair with a light sweater and the hood is perfect to block the chill on windy or wet days. I have the black and my husband has the blue- both look great!
