Rob S –
It’s warm and comfortable to wear, and it stows in a built in pocket and is easily carried in a back pack.

Its a nice mix for casual or dress in black, I just returned from a weekend in NYC, it was the perfect item even when the wind is blowing, but when I carried it, the weight was just what was needed.
Ellen H –
So lightweight, and yet warm and waterproof! Looks good too, not bulky. Really an amazing coat!

Just tested this in a rare So Cal downpour to walk the dog. I only wore a t-shirt underneath and it kept me warm, even with chilly gusts. I’ve had a raincoat for the last 20 years that’s always worked fine, but I always felt cold wearing it, and would have to layer up before putting it on. I wanted a raincoat that provides warmth by itself while still light and this is it. It’s definitely thin and lightweight, so I think you would want something thicker to ward off a frigid wind or deep cold (or at least wear insulating layers underneath). The PrimaLoft is impressive, though–it does give a surprising amount of warmth. I could tell upon entering the house how warm it actually was. I bought a medium-tall so it would fit fairly snug, which was the right call because it kept my body heat in well. If I was going to wear a thick wool sweater underneath, though, I would’ve needed a large. My guess is this coat was designed to be as warm as possible while still being packable. If you need max warmth, and don’t mind bulk, you might want something like the LL Bean Maine Warden 3-in-1 parka. For me personally, I like having a raincoat that doesn’t take up too much closet space, and let the bulkier jackets like my wool peacoat use that space.

I’m very happy with this coat so far. I was worried about the “packaway” part, thinking it would be too lightweight, but although it is light it’s also very warm. The length is perfect–mid-thigh–and it fits me very well. I’m a woman, but I bought the Men’s Tall coat because I couldn’t find any women’s coats that had long enough sleeves. The fact that this coat has a woman’s version too means that I don’t feel that I am conspicuously wearing men’s clothing (no, it doesn’t look feminine at all). I hope LL Bean will have more Women’s Tall options in the future so that I don’t have to buy from Land’s End, lol.

There is a women’s version of this coat but they didn’t have my size in black. Found a men’s version of it and not only did they have my size, it was also quite a bit cheaper. I’m a women’s size 12 and so bought a men’s large. Fits great with room to spare for layering. It’s also very lightweight. I’m heading to London in a few weeks and I hope it keeps me warm. If not, I’ll be back to revise my review.

Great lightweight warm coat. Lives up to its billing as being waterproof.

Lightweight, warm and stylish. It reminds of my Gerry Lift Coat I had so many years ago which kept me safe and warm in all of my youthful misadventures circa ’70’s
LESNYC –
This coat is amazing. Its really surprising how warm it is. DON’T let the light weight of this coat fool you. It is super warm and you can bring it on a plane and stick it in your carry on without taking much space, The fact that it is waterproof makes it extra special. the zipper works perfectly. The only change I would make is the hand warmer pocket should be lined and the closure should be velcro and not zippered to gain easier access – adding an extra inside breast pocket would be helpful as well. MY MAJOR COMPLAINT IS THAT THEY DONT MAKE THEM IN PLUS SIZES FOR WOMEN SO I CAN’T BUY ONE FOR MY WIFE.

When this coat arrived, I couldn’t believe how light the package was. I thought “this coat can’t be that warm”. I was wrong. It’s the warmest coat I have. I only wish it had an inside or outside drawstring. That would make it even warmer!
Anthony –
This is an amazing coat because it is super light, it keeps you nice and warm and dry.
I tried it out on the mountain trails here in California and I hope to wear it hiking and trekking around the world.

Great weight, waterproof, true fit- tons of pocket

I was waiting for the price to drop & when it did I scooped it up!

This is a great commuter coat. It looks great with business dress. With the proper insulation it’s warm to the single digits. Maybe lower, buts as cold as it’s gotten here this year. Rain and snow roll off the outer shell.
The only negative about the coat is the zipper pulls are small and are hard to grip with gloves on.
Pete –
Works well, especially when laying! Performed as expected today here in Colorado Springs. Wind chill was -22
Susan D –
So light weight and warm. Perfect for Maine winters!
Eric T –
Got this for a trip to NYC during a very cold storm. Worked outstanding for the cold and rain. Lots of very useful pockets. I wear it now in So Cal on cold days and it’s great. Very waterproof
Pauline –
Perfect fit, perfect length, perfect pockets. Love it.
Pablo G –
Awesome performance. Truly waterproof.
During very low temperatures (-5F or so) you will need another thick and warm layer, although the coat works fine if you keep moving for a short period of time.
Jasper –
Best, most versatile coat I’ve ever owned! Highly recommended.
Brian Y –
I bought this coat as my day-to-day winter commuter coat. I’ve had it for about a month. It is lighter in weight than I expected, but it is also warmer. We’ve had two colder days since I’ve had it, both with temperatures in the teens. I’m only outside for about 15 minutes at a time (walking to/from the train on each side). But it kept me plenty warm – I didn’t need an extra vest or sweater over my shirt and under this coat. The color is interesting – in just about all light it appears black except bright sunlight, when it appears navy blue. I have not had any issues with the zipper. I’ve worn it about 10-15 times and I’m likely done wearing it for this year. Hopefully it will prove to have the durability I expect from Bean.

Light, keeps you warm & dry (unlike some jackets that get wet with rain); can be used from late fall through early spring and can be packed away easily for travel. Holds shape with time (waited 2 years before I write this).
Dana J –
I was looking for a light weight winter raincoat. My wife had purchased a packaway and has liked it, so I decided to give this a try. It’s listed as a “long coat”, but marked as a 3/4 length when it arrived. I am 5’10” and 180 lbs. I purchased the large and the fit is very good. Sleeve length is good – I am a 34 in. It’s snug over my corduroy sport coat, but fits well over a lighter sport coat. The length on me is about a hand width above the knee. Wore it in a gentle rain and the water did bead up. It’s warm for its weight. But, I have not worn it yet at under 30 degrees. Hood fits well and has several adjustment cords. So, overall very pleased with my purchase

Great rain jacket! The length and fit are perfect.

It is nice , light and enough warm to keep you warm above 40 f.
