I am usually a size Reg L for LL Bean coats. This coat is slightly fitted and the L I ordered didn't have much room for a midweight layer underneath. I called and got the measurements to compare sizes and decided to exchange the Reg L for a Petite XL. It is perfect for being able to layer without the sleeves being too long. It is slightly too big without layering which gives room to move. If you are wondering what size to order consider if you want to layer it, the fit your prefer, and calling to compare measurements not listed on the size chart on the different sizes. The 2 way zipper was a nice surprise, fleece baffle at neck and cuffs are soft and block drafts, nice blue color. The hood has adjustments on either side to cinch it down and there also are toggles and cord at the waist to customize the fit. The flap covered pockets and waterproof zipper pockets are large and secure. I will layer this with the packaway vest when the temps go below zero. This coat is a winner!

This review is mainly a heads up in case anyone else sees what I saw in the first photo of the black coat: I somehow convinced myself that the hood tucks into the collar. (Photos of black clothing often do not have enough contrast to properly show all the features.) I hate hoods. My closet is full of hoods from past and present jackets and coats. I use Goretex rain hats or wool berets instead.
In the meantime, it was the only coat I could find anywhere online that looked it like could keep me warm and dry on a long winter walk in the rain, so I'll probably keep it and figure out how to tuck the hood down my back, or roll it up and secure it somehow. (PS not a bus commuter. That was before I retired.)

This coat is comfortable and just the right length. I haven’t worn it in the cold yet because it hasn’t gotten cold enough in Illinois, but it will!

Although the price for this coat scared me a bit, it is every bit worth it. Very warm, definitely waterproof, and I love the elastic in the wrist to keep the wind from blowing up my arm. I do wish the hood had a way to pull it back so it didn’t fall over my eyes like every other hooded coat I have. I guess I need a longer neck!

Where to begin? The blue color is totally blah. Perhaps I read the information wrong, but I thought it was knee length. I already have a 3/4 length coat and did not want another. I am taller than 5″6″ and long in torso so maybe that is the problem. I dislike Velcro as it catches on everything.. Lastly, it was not warm enough. However I am cold natured so maybe it’s me.
I think probably value for money the winter warmer coat is a better coat. I realize we all have colors that flatter us, but Often I can’t find a good color choice. A true navy like deep sea would have be much better for different skin tones or maybe cobalt. I’ll get off my soap box, but will say that this crank has many LL Bean items in her closet.!!!!!

Amazingly light. You probably know need to layer up a bit in extreme cold. Highly recommend.
Trish –
Light in weight, sized up and this jacket fits with under layering of vests and sweaters nicely, warm and comfortable. Normally a med regular, purchased a large petite.

Comfortable and warm. Great for traveling, since it packs up neatly in its own pocket. True to size and color. Good length for keeping warm and dry.
Winter T –
This coat met all expectations. Despite other reviews, zipper was sturdy and worked perfectly once properly aligned. Defeated high winds and below-freezing temps, all while giving a non-bulky silhouette. And took up so little suitcase space!

Soft, comfortable, and just right amount of weight
