GinGer –
I have been wanting a good rain jacket, and that is why I bought this despite the price tag. It is not labeled as a rain jacket, but I wore it today in heavy rain and temps in the 40s and was quite warm (with just a cotton turtleneck underneath) and stayed dry after 1/2 hour walk. The description is a little off in a couple of areas; there is just one chest pocket (it is inside), and a second internal pocket on the right side that is lower. I don't see a media pocket at all. The two external hand pockets have zippers, which is nice for securing things. Also, there is not a drawcord hem, but there is an internal drawcord at waist level. The length is great. I'm 5'8" and the coat comes almost to my fingertips when standing straight. For me this is the perfect length for a raincoat. If I could change one thing, I would add a gusset to cover the zipper. However, the zipper seems very well sealed and as I said the coat is waterproof. The blue color is lovely; it's nice getting away from standard navy.

The overall cut of this coat is ideal. There are alot of nice details. There are imho unnecessary armpit zips but I think PrimaLoft insulation is prone to overheating. But the thing I could not abide was the one-way zipper. For the price point it seems odd that a 2-way zipper was not included. I find being able to adjust from both ends of the zipper a better way to manage temperature. Sadly, I returned it.

So cute, soft, comfortable, warm and yet light! Living in Oregon, I appreciate having a waterproof jacket with a cute appearance.
GinGer –
I wearied of the puffy coats and wanted something a bit dressier that was also warm. Also wanted a coat that fully covered my bottom, but not too long. This coat is perfect in that regard, I love the length. The pockets are excellent, inside and out. The sleeves have the velcro tabs, which I appreciate because otherwise they would be a little too long. Only improvement I would make is to add two-way zippers. I walk a lot in NYC but am also on the subways daily and the 2-way zip makes a lot of sense for me, or for anyone who drives. I got the blue – such a nice change from black – and would like to see more color options!
Hikingmermaid –
I bought this to replace a ski jacket (the waterproofing wore out) that I used 3-seasons as my everyday jacket but also as my travel/hiking/skiing/winter backpacking jacket. I bought it in the spruce pine colorway which is no longer available, but it is my favorite color. The cons almost outweighed the pros, but as I got it on sale and it is super lightweight I decided to keep it. I hope you improve the future models as I would happily buy again if there were some changes.
PROS: It is significantly lighter weight than my old jacket but still sufficiently warm, and I run cold. I agree with the temp rating-it is not super warm if I’m just walking at 25 (and would not be enough if I was just sitting outdoors), but if I’m hiking or walking uphill it is plenty warm. Basically, you have to pair it with appropriate underlayers to get the right insulation level. It seems to be sufficiently waterproof but definitely breathable. Really, the moisture and thermal management properties of this jacket are awesome. I like that the outside doesn’t have the puff down quilted look. It is somehow both roomy and flattering (I’m built like a rectangle of small hips and large waist but have a larger bust) The hood is the perfect size to fit over a big winter trapper-style hat (I don’t know if it would be big enough for a ski helmet) and the funnel neck is also sufficient to accommodate a big scarf and comes up over my chin. Plus it has a slight brim and can be adjusted around the opening or around the top of the head. I like that it has a waterproof zipper, thus eliminating the need for a flap over it. The hand pocket placement is great and I’m thrilled they have zippers. I love the length, that it comes down all the way over my rear. Armpit zips are necessary for winter jackets for me, so I’m glad they were included.
CONS: Biggest con for me is the lack of exterior chest pocket. I live somewhere really cold and I hate having to open my jacket to get my wallet. I thought the interior chest pocket could work ok instead, but because it doubles as a packaway pocket, it is too deep for me to conveniently reach the bottom. I will have to sew it closed to be shorter. Plus, no matter how many ways I’ve tried to fold or stuff it, I can’t actually get it to fit in the packaway pocket and close the zipper all the way. Honestly, for the light weight and thinness of this, it doesn’t need a packaway pocket, you could just lay it flat in your travel bag or stuff it in. The right interior pocket needs a velcro tab or snap so that what you put in it can’t fall out so easily (also if it were a bit taller and wider that would be awesome-my last jacket pocket like this could fit a small paperback or my ipad). A two-way zipper on the front would be a GREAT improvement, on the other hand you could make the armpit zips a single zipper (and remove that pesky stretch gusset which just gets caught in the armpit zipper). I don’t personally use the butt-flap zippers, I don’t need the room, and they are awkward to reach. The adjustor for the back of the hood gets stuck. The zipper also is sticky to open and close so I am worried I will have to replace that. I will probably never bother with the drawstring waist, I wish they didn’t even put it in. I really hate the jersey cuffs on the sleeves. They are going to be too warm in fall/spring and they are too small to fit over big winter gloves. I will probably cut mine out.

It’s very light weight and just the right length to cover the backside. The sleeves have those inner cuffs so it keeps you warmer

I love the color and a jacket is really comfortable

The PNW is cool and rainy most of the time, so I wear this jacket almost daily. It is absolutely waterproof, warm and packable, and perfect for travel. I think I might need to buy a new one in a different color as I recently noticed that I am wearing the same coat in almost every photo for the past several years!
Savvy –
Needs reflective piping or strips.. I purchased this for my daughter to use at college, but it seems to be like an invisible cloak. It is very difficult to see her at night. Please add reflectors.
Claire –
Very comfortable. Perfect fit. Happy with the purchase!
Eileen –
This is a great looking waterproof jacket.
I hope it I will be available in the teal green again.
Rosebud –
Jacket was too tight to layer. Sleeves about 4 inches too long. I bought a M Petite. Overall I find Petite Sizing to be too long in terms of pants and sleeve length. If I really like what I bought, however, I will have it tailored.
QuiltQueen –
I haven’t had a chance yet to put this jacket to the test, but it fits great and is very comfortable. I thought it would fold up smaller than it does, but it is rather ingenious that it folds into a pocket. I’m looking forward to being warm and dry in Iceland.
Brooky –
I purchased this jacket in July…so as reasonably expected…I am unable to comment on the warmth of the jacket…however…I have had other LLBean jackets…and they have all proved to offer the required warmth…as advertised…during cold weather. The color is perfect…the fit is perfect…and I especially like the comfort of the soft cuffs that are hidden inside the sleeve…a nice feature to prohibit the cold from going up your sleeve. The longer design in the back is sufficient to cover one’s backside for added warmth. I am anxious for the cold weather to arrive !!

I bought this jacket nearly 2 years ago. It kept me warm and dry through a huge winter storm with lots of snow and temperatures dropping -20 Fahrenheit. I was walking outside in it with a couple of layers underneath and felt great. I continued to wear it during spring and fall. It’s light and has a lot of functional pockets. The outside pockets are deep enough to hold cell phones, keys, scarf. It doesn’t overheat me when wearing in the spring and fall, but manage to keep me warm during cold winter. It’s worth the high price tag
Last year I bought a 2nd one, in the blue color. For some reason, it didn’t have the same warmth. I returned it. My plan is to purchase another one, more neutral color like black for myself, and the purple one for my mom. Hopefully they are the same quality as of my 1st one. That one is still holding strong.
This jacket was my 1st purchase from LLBEAN and I had such a good experience that I have since bought more things.

I’ve been hiking in the PNW and walking in MN Fall/ (early and late) Winter/Spring with this jacket and it is perfect! I’ve stayed completely dry, even in driving rain, and warm to boot. No leaking through seams and great zipper vents. Would not be warm enough for subzero MN winters, in my opinion.
Very, very happy with this coat! Please do not ever get rid of this product!
SallyD –
I wanted to love this coat because of the deep, true purple color but it’s going back. I ordered a small petite and it was a good fit everywhere but the sleeves which were a good three inches too long. The sleeves were so long I couldn’t rely on just tightening the velcro because then they bunched up all the way to the shoulders, making the coat unwearable.

This jacket kept me warm and dry on my trip to Alaska. It is very comfortable and the length added warmth. This is a great jacket.
Ljgordon –
I haven’t worn it yet, but the fit is perfect and I love the weight and color. I plan to use it for layering on a cold weather vacation upcoming.
Annmcgee –
Love that it’s packable. Warm and yet lightweight. It’s a winner.
Kathy –
This is a very comfortable jacket and repels the water perfectly. Light weight and perfect for packing in a suitcase. I brought it on my cruise to Alaska and it was just what I needed walking around Alaska on the rainy days.

This jacket is warm & very waterproof! Served me well in Iceland! Would have loved for it to come in more colors – as well for the price point to be a little lower. I feel like $150-180 range is more appropriate for the calibur of this jacket.
