Glen B –
Long sleeve, or roll them up. Light weight, breathable, and quick drying. Good fit, nice pockets and details, and the insect repellent doesn’t hurt either!

So I bought this for my dad last year. He is constantly in the woods. He does love it – feels it is comfortable and protective, however, the material lends itself to catch all of the elements in the woods. He mentioned the shirts gets all the brush stuck to it so I would recommend that the people in development and innovation at LLBean actually go in the woods and test their products to see how they hold up. You are an outdoor company afterall 🙂 Four stars for that and the price.

I live in Maine. The black flies are terrible from May-June. The shirt fits perfectly and is very versatile. I bought all 4 colors.

A very good looking comfortable shirt. No bugs so far!

Bought this shirt for my husband, but I had bought two no fly zone shirts for myself previously. They are lightweight and really keep the bugs from alighting on my arms.

I got this shirt about a month ago. It is my second one. My wife and I both love the look and the fit is great. It does seem to help with the bugs but it’s not perfect. Yesterday evening I was watering a large area of new grass and the mosquitoes were out big time and I actually got bit through the shirt on my elbow. I’d rate this shirt as a five if it weren’t for that and a couple of other similar instances. They are light and perfect for that evening time in the summer or add a layer under if it’s a bit cooler.

The no fly shirt works well. I’ve been wearing it on backwoods fishing trips and it’s been great at repelling mosquitos. It fits great too.

This is very close to a perfect product, which is why I shop LL BEAN usually. When you buy BEAN, you know you’re getting quality and a product that has been tested, tried and thought out, even redesigned maybe a time or two, until they feel it’s the best they can do. I took a chance on this, not knowing what to expect of a bug-repellent shirt, but I had confidence that if anyone had it right, it would be Beans. I am not only satisfied, but impressed.
I live in the northern part of the Adirondack Mountains of NY, near the Lake Placid area, and I spend lots of time outdoors hiking, working around farm animals (veterinary assistant) and paddling. The Adk mtns. are FAMOUS for bugs. If it flies and bites, we have it here! It’s a testament to the effectiveness of the shirt that I receive NO BITES while wearing this (on areas the shirt covers). I was hoping that it might ward of bugs going after my head, too but it doesn’t do that. You’ll need a hat or better yet a bug net for over your face, which is what lots of us wear up here.
I often wear XL because I’m a stocky guy (6’0″, 230lbs, broad shoulders) and this XL fit right off the rack. Not baggy, but nice and loose for working or hiking in hot weather when a sweaty shirt might stick. Not here.
The one change I would make is for the lower sleeves to be a tad roomier as I have kind of large forearms and sometimes have problems rolling up the sleeves. With this shirt I can’t roll them up enough to use the built-in fasteners that make this into a short-sleeve shirt, but that’s no deal breaker. I have that problem sometimes, especially with EMS clothing and as it turns out, when I need protection from bugs I usually want my arms covered too, so no biggie.
The fabric felt in the store like it might feel a little artificial, synthetic or ‘plastic-ish’, but it feels great on the trail. Breathes very well on a hot day (when the bugs tend to be out) and doesn’t chaff or impede my shoulder/arm movement in any way. I feels better when worn than it does to the hand on the rack. Don’t know how they do that but it works.
I will buy more of these; you should, too!
